Default Official BT-UK Sparkle 9500GT Competition thread

As things have been made more official I left it was time for us to have an official thread on the competition

The contest

The contest consists of an old benchmark called Nature in 3dMark01. This benchmark has been chosen for the fact that only GPU-dependent. In short this means that it does not matter what system you used for the benchmark, because the result will always be the same (in theory).

Prizes

Yes! There are prizes too
1st. 200 euro
2nd 130 euro
3th. 85 euro
These will be in the form of a voucher to dollarshops.eu so you can buy new hardware

Add your scores
Scores are processed in a central system, which can be found at overclocking-holland.nl/contest. Once you’ve all been registered you’ll be provided with the login information. When submitting you will be required to upload the following information :
  • Score in frames per second
  • Core clock, in Megahertz.
  • Shader clock in Megahertz
  • GDDR clock in Megahertz
  • VGPU in milli Volt (if you don't have a voltmeter you can just quote the stock voltage)
  • VGDDR in milli Volt (again just quote the stock voltages)
  • Method of Cooling used
  • A valid screenshot which will be uploaded onto the server. The guidelines for creating a screenshot are given in the rules below.

Rules
To ensure a fair competition, there will be a few rules that have to be obeyed. The rules used will be the same as those used on hwbot.org. These rules are very clear about what is and what is NOT allowed.

Use the standard settings in 3DMark
Let your screenshot clearly see the following aspects:
  • 3DMark score
  • 3DMark settings
  • CPU clock speeds in CPU-Z (fully visible)
  • GPU clock speeds in GPU-Z or RivaTuner for clock speeds (fully visible)
  • Full taskbar, including clock and the icons next to the clock shown. (Set "hide inactive icons" so OFF)
  • Notepad on screen with username
  • NO Watermarks and screenshot must be full screen size (no cropping)
  • PCI-E Frequency is to be limited to 115MHz
  • The following settings in the "details" screen 3dmark:
  • 3DMark Version should be 330
  • Display, with underlying options
  • Options, with underlying data
  • Results with fps for nature

Please note that when necessary you might be asked to replicate the score on location for validation....

Example Screen shot: http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/333/validation.jpg

Prohibited Hardware

None, except obviously using only the supplied 9500GT.

Prohibited Tweaks
  • NO Mipmap tweaking
  • Any software or human action that would affect the benchmark or alter the benchmark score resulting in a false result
  • Wire Frame hacks, software or a driver that ensures that the benchmark is not properly completed.
  • Only RivaTuner can be used for tweaking/adjustment of gpu clocks, including D3D Overider. Other tools like Nvhardpage, Nhancer etc. are not allowed. Simply put, if you can do it in rivatuner it's allowed

In case of doubt the score will be removed from the score list and the user will be asked for clarification. Be sure that your screenshots are in accordance with the rules and save your screenshots. There are no backups of the scores made on the server!
If the competition organiser contacts you about any tweaks you have you, you must be able to answer with an detailed description about the used tweaks. No cooperation means removal from the contest!

Competition deadline

To ensure that there is no disagreement on the deadline of the competition, we have a date for which all his or her overclocking results must be posted.

The overclocking competition is up to 31/05/2009 24:00 (they are one hour ahead so for us that's 11pm!!!!)

Slightly Less Official Chat

The cards are DDR2 based and look to be memory bound score wise. Unfortunately its Qimonda memory which is basically the worse kind of memory to try and overclock Our best option is to redo the vddr mod so that we can vary the voltage both up and down as my previous experience with Qimonda suggested that it's very sensitive to voltage changes and doesn't like high volts.

Some of the Dutch contestants have discovered that upping the PCI-E frequency allows for improved overclocks on the memory and the GPU. We can do our on testing to see about this but we're looking at approximately 115-120MHz atm for the sweet spot

The GPU power circuitry features over current protection (OCP) that is based on the Rds(on) resistance on the lower MOSFET. Wit the current MOSFETs on the card the OCP limit is approximately 30Amps. We can increase this limit by changing out this MOSFET for one with a lower Rds resistance or Tom (SoddomFX) has suggested we could piggyback an additional MOSFET in parallel which will also reduce the visible resistance across the drain-source. Of course This will only be necessary if there is any real gains to overclocking the GPU core...

Hi, I'm one of the people from overseas...

I was wondering, which revision do you guys have? Apparently Johnny has a A1, but the most people here in Holland got a C1.

And how does the stock cooler looks like? Like the one in the TS or like this one?

Yo dude and welcome

My heatsink is this one..

As for board revision I can't see anything like those numbers, got SFPX95 REV: D2.3 if that is any use.

Aha, ok. You can find the revision if you look @ GPU-z.

C1 + A1

That's a link to a restricted area of techzine.

But the cards are exactly the same, except for the revision of the core.

Mwa, not restricted per se , but I editted it...

BTW, Johnny his card has a different BIOS...

But I think almost all the people here @ Benchtec will do a Vmod so that little difference isn't that important

@ Starbuck
Hi and thanks
